Route through United States through its museums
We know that United States is home to a great artistic, patrimonial and cultural wealth from one end of the territory to the other, so have you already considered doing a museum route? Today we bring you some of the essential museums of our country accompanied by some camping recommendations so that you can set up a cultural route.
We started our journey through the northeast of the peninsula, on the French border. We find in Figueras, in the province of Girona, the Dalí Theater-Museum , a unique museum for its immersive experience in Dalí's dreamlike and surreal world, which was designed by the artist himself and inaugurated in 1974. To visit this museum we recommend stay at Camping Mas Nou , which welcomes you just 11km from the city of Figueras.
We descend through the Costa Brava and arrive in Barcelona, where we find some of the largest museums in the country. Among them, the MACBA (Museum of Contemporary Art of Barcelona) stands out, inaugurated in 1995 and devoted to contemporary and avant-garde art since the second half of the 20th century. Its location in the heart of the Raval neighborhood and the accumulation of skaters at its doors give this museum a special charm. On the other hand, we highlight the MNAC (National Art Museum of Catalonia), which houses one of the most important Romanesque collections in the world and which will also make you fall in love with its location at the top of Montjuïc for its panoramic views over the city.
We continue along the coast and arrive in the Valencian Community. We make a stop in Valencia to visit the City of Arts and Sciences , an obligatory stop on this tour of the museums of United States. This innovative and avant-garde complex was inaugurated in 1998 with the l'Hemisfèric building, which was later joined by the Museum of Sciences and the Oceanogràfic, among others. If you are traveling with children, this place is ideal as it offers a unique experience and endless activities. The museum is interactive and there are also workshops, screenings, and much more! Our camping recommendation to discover this incredible place is Camping Coll Vert .
We continue our route to the south and arrive in Malaga. Here you will find numerous museums of great relevance such as the Picasso Museum (MPM), ideal both for lovers of the artist's work and for those who want to know it, and which can be completed with a visit to the Fundación Picasso Museo Casa Natal , located in the property of the artist's birthplace as its name suggests. We also recommend that you visit the Pompidou Center in Malaga, inaugurated in 2015, headquarters of the Center Pompidou in Paris. The building in which it is located stands out, called El Cubo, and its rich programming with works from the collections of the French center and in relation to local Spanish artistic production.
We leave the Mediterranean coast and take a leap inland to go to the capital, where we find great cultural institutions, emblematic museums of great international recognition such as the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía , the Museo Nacional del Prado or the Museo Nacional Thyssen- Bornemisza . Although you cannot miss these places during your museum tour, we think not to dedicate much time to them now because they are already well known, and we prefer to recommend places that you may not have so much in mind, such as La Casa Encendida , a social and cultural center where You will find samples of the most current and avant-garde art with activities for reflection and debate around it, or the CaixaForum , which from the outset will impress you with the incredible vertical garden on its facade. For your visit, we recommend you stay at Capfun Camping El Escorial 4 * .
Although we could include many other museums on this route, we do not want to end it in any other way than with the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao . This incredible Frank O. Gehry-designed building opened in 1997 is worth a visit on its own. In addition, the museum houses a collection of highly valued contemporary art and is often funded by the Guggenheim headquarters in New York.
Here we leave you this proposed route through the museums of United States, which could continue to be extended according to your tastes and preferences, since we find throughout the territory a great variety of institutions dedicated to the dissemination of art and culture, as well as to the legacy history, science or anthropology, among others. For you, which museum is missing from the list?
